Transparent Communities Forum

Picture
Transparency + Compassion = Trust which builds stronger communities
About the event
Having recently done a workshop with an NVC* Californian trainer (Kelly Bryson) who has worked extensively with communities and brings qualities of play, humour and fun along with depth of connection between people, a group of us are now offering our sixth forum space locally -  to as many people as want to come.

Our vision is to support people locally to find ways to connect beyond the usual polite chit chat - to risk something of ourselves in a safe environment so that we start being more ‘real’ with one another.

In my experience, this is just so much more satisfying than protecting myself from the risk of being judged.

Kelly taught us a tried and tested method for doing this (The Zegg Forum).

Non-local people are welcome too.

Intentions for the this, our sixth gathering...

This might involve sharing with each other a little of our vulnerability and even our frustrations and hopes for ourselves and our community

(and if this all sounds a little too scary to you, no worries, there is no obligation or pressure to share anything - witnesses to others’ sharings are welcome too).

So this is a rough idea of how we imagine our time being spent:

So this is a rough idea of how we imagine our time being spent:

10am Arrive for teas/coffee and settling in

10.30am Play some simple connecting games

11.00am Open Circle Forum Part One - this will be explained at the time - and we hope will be fun, possibly a little edgy for those that chose to speak in the circle but also, in our experience very satisfying too as it meets human needs for sharing, connection, trust, being seen and more. And I want to reiterate, that there is no obligation to speak in the circle - I trust and hope that you will find it enjoyable whether you chose to speak or not.

11.45am Tea break

12 noon - Open Circle Forum Part Two

12.50pm Closing of the group

1.00pm Shared Lunch and time to chat... (bring a vegetarian dish to share)

1.45pm community clear up of the hall

2.00pm finish

We hope that these forums will become a regular event so that we can experiment with growing and supporting local communities in developing trust and love through being more transparent - hence the name ‘Transparent Communities Forum’.

To make this event happen this time we have hired St Dogmael's Church Hall. Our hope is to not be out of pocket for this so we are requesting donations of a few pounds  to cover hall hire, teas etc.

Please bring a vegetarian dish to share for lunch.

A quote from Dieter Duhm, who began these forums - from Twelve Theses for a Nonviolent World

2. Love and Trust

"Nonviolent action and humane thinking both result from love. Love results from trust. Trust results from truth [also read: transparency]. We must create spaces where human beings no longer have reasons for lies and fear. We must create the social and ecological conditions for love. Confidence and love are the powers fundamental to all creation.”
